Crazy or stubborn… I go back and forth on what to think of El Paso City Rep. Melina Castro. Her latest stint in the headlines follows last week’s embarrassing appointment of El Paso’s one time most eligible bachelor, Robert Cushing, to the Charter Review Committee. This week she’s revisiting an ultimatum to either apologize or pay $31,200. You and I would probably just fake an apology and move on with our lives, but that’s not how Melina “the Unrepentant” operates.
The EP Times took time off from breaking huge stories like the secret growth in east El Paso and covered the embattled Rep’s pitty party today. Check it here http://www.elpasotimes.com/breakingnews/ci_4914371
The article indicates that she released this statement to the press today:
"I am also disappointed that the judge in this case saw fit to impost upon me what amounts to a fine of $30,000.00 for having made the request in the first place -- particularly when the Texas Attorney General determined I had an absolute right to see the document when it was requested -- $30,000.00 in attorney fees for a dispute over two pages of text. Is it any wonder that the public is severely skeptical of our legal system?"
Here’s my advice to Mrs. Castro –
First, don’t knock the legal system in your statements to the press, especially when you are going to further rely on the legal system to save your stubborn butt.
Second, don’t use words like “impost,” it’s a tell-tale sign that you either abused a thesaurus or had someone write the statement for you. Us common folk tend to use “impose” in that particular situation.
Third, the $30,000 in attorney fees are no longer attached to a dispute over two pages of text. The $30,000 is now attached to an apology you refuse to give.
Fourth, too bad the Texas Attorney General didn’t hear your case
Fifth, if you have a trusted advisor – fire him or her. If you don’t have an advisor – hire one.
You need to apologize and save yourself some serious cash. If you are as interested in starting a family on a solid financial foundation as you claim, you’ll put your family in front of your foolish pride. I think you like to fight to remind yourself that you have fists.
