Craddick wins, but do we? I don’t know how to answer that, but there is going to be some payback during this session. Thankfully our House members (for the most part) voted for the guy holding the spot coming into the election. Moreno didn’t support him, but God knows he may have thought he was ordering a burger at Whataburger at the time.
El Paso’s delegation made the smart move and supported the guy who has already promised us our medical school funding. Supporting Craddick was a failsafe plan and here’s why.
If these guys had voted against Craddick and he won, we’d surely be targets for his ire in the upcoming session. If Craddick had lost and they supported Pitts we’d still be lost in the mix of paybacks the new Speaker of the House would owe to a bunch of folks not from El Paso.
The fact that Craddick won and our guys supported him will make this session a little easier on us. Even if Craddick had lost, Pitts wouldn’t have been mad at the El Paso delegation for not supporting him. His payback would focus on longtime republicans surrounding Craddick. Sometimes it’s nice to blend into New Mexico.
I think our House representation knows what they need to do. I always worry about Shapleigh and hope that he plays ball all session long. Any “lawyeristic” tirades from him and we’ll lose more than just the medical school funding. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and wish him luck for now.
I’m going to try my best to keep up with what’s going on during session this year because I know the EP Times has written its last story on the session as of today.
Also – The mayor better not back out and let Melina “Fidel” Castro out from under that $30,000 rock she drug herself under. Letting her go will only embolden her. Of course that may lead to a recall election sooner than expected. I hope the Northeast’s hopeful candidates are ready to go. I work cheap.
Also – Commissioner’s Court met for the first time and nobody called anyone else an asshole – great first day. I expect Cobos to be flicking buggers at his opponents by the end of the week, though. Watch closely what happens here, I know I will. These guys look ripe for a federal investigation ending in some hard time for those whose large crowns blind their common and legal sense.
