I Don't Know What Anna Perez Was Trying to Say But...
I think I agree. Big League Dreams is a bullshit boondoggle that came from nearly illegal influence over money hungry County Commissioners. How criminal charges haven't been filed is beyond me.
Read Anna's piece here http://www.elpasotimes.com/opinion/ci_10578061.
These idiots form California came into little o'l El Paso and tricked a few money hungry County Commissioners into carrying their water in attempt to ripoff El Paso tax payers.
We don't need to build stadium replicas in order to make the park worth going to. We don't need a management company from somewhere else picking fights and raising prices with the local parents. What we do need is some effort by the county and the patrons.
1. The County needs to dedicate all fees collected from the activities on those fields to those fields.
2. Select a management company like the one Brian Kennedy has to take care of the park for a set fee each year.
3. Require those who use the field to come and maintain the fields. Every other successful community requires those who play there to help with keeping the place nice. Look at High School Baseball fields where the players are expected to spend an hour a day maintaining the field.
4. Don't expect to turn big profits off of youth sports. Leave that to the companies selling $300 bats to airhead parents of eight year-ODs. Provide the park as a "quality of life" amenity for your citizens - not as a way to shuffle money into the coffers to later wasted on things we don't need.
Hopefully someone listens to me. I don't speak louder than free trips and easily covered up cash bribes. Oh yeah and the occasional "lobby gig" for former commissioners....
