This as basic as I can make it.
1. Shapleigh is out.
2. Shapleigh is probably running for something statewide - AG, Railroad Commissioner - who knows, I wasn't at the press conference. The bottom line is that he's gone as far as he can go representing El Paso without going backwards.
3. Shapleigh is a very smart dude. He knew that if he got up, Norma Chavez would sit down. That's why Jose Rodriguez is holding a press conference today to announce his run for Shapleigh's seat. The idea here is to back Chavez out of the race.
4. Let's sleep on it. I'm not sure what the republicans are going to do. I know that if Norma gets in the race, I'm in. We can't afford to have her win a primary where the moderate democrats who would vote for Rodriguez end up voting in the republican primary which would give the win to Norma. I would be there to stop her and believe me, I can stop her. She won't get the votes anywhere but the valley and her challenger will have millions to spend.
So, there you have it.
Also, look for Mayor Cook to make some kind of move.
Good Luck but I don't think you would win David...you have not greased the wheels as they say and thats ok eg you said yourself your not seeking to be 'connected'. I mean its your right to run and it would be a 'experience' if not a learning one. You got a streak of rebel in you I think, you wont let your self be found in all the shit you so well point out about 'politics'.

All I have to say this 2010 democrat primary will be very interesting. Looking forward to see who is running for whay office. I WILL NOT VOTE FOR NORMA CHAVEZ. I hope Shapleigh runs for the 16th Congressional seat. We need a major change in the 6th congressional. With the GOP governors race between Hutchinson and Perry being a major news story, now the local democrat races will be a major news story, especially if Shapleigh challenges Reyes. That would be a great race. Between the two I would vote for Shapleigh over Reyes and alot of voters would. Debate the issues. Reyes srill has not signed on to the HR 745 Pancreatic Cancer Research and Educational Bill in the House of Representatives. I asked Reyes that question at the Bowie High School Town Hall meeting and he said he would sign on to and support HR 745 Pancreatic Cancer Research and Education Bill. Silvestre Reyes is a liar and needs to sign on to that very important bill HR 745 Pancreatic Cancer Research and Education Bill. He said he would at Bowie High talking about Health Care. Run for congress Eliot Shapleigh.

Made some spelling errors. We need a change in the 16th congressional district. Who will be running for what office will be very interesting.

I would vote for you, and I believe you would win...Last time I checked we still had the right to vote. These people aren't Gods...they are people just like you and me. Norma who?

I am licking my lips in anticipation to see Jose Rodriguez and Norma Chavez campaign against each other. That will make the local democratic factions very entertaining. We may also learn more dirt that has been held in reserve. As KVIA reported about Pat Haggarty and Dee Margo considering, if either of them did it would be ignoring the straight ticket disadvantage that no Republican could overcome....perhaps unless the democratic opponent is Chavez. I think a number of democrats would vote for a republican to keep her out.

Why did Shapleigh step down? The lapdog media will not dare investigate. KittyStar and David K will not even speculate.
Green Eggs and Ham. Sam I Am.
My guess is that his personal life is in shambles. I think he is a hypocrite of the highest order.
The image of him "being a champion of the poor" while attending big money events hosted by influence peddlers..... and cheating on his wife at the time seems likely to me.
I feel sorry for his kids.

good point open letter. i think his personal life is in the shitter too. every time i asked or commented about his divorce on any of the npt blogs, sito wouldnt post it. i guess eliot and caballero have always owned npt, sito, crowder, and keith. i just never knew it. they post letterman's crap and the south carolina guy's south american trip, but nothing that ever puts eliot in a bad light.

I would like to see Shapleigh run for Congress. That would make a very interesting democrat primary. How many cross overs to vote Reyes out. How sweet that would be. Then all the ones on local talk radio drinking the reyes koolaid would have to eat a little crow. 2010 is a good year for Change. Shapleigh for Congress. What would Nancy Pelosi do if reyes loses in a democrat primary? That would say a lot. Run Shapleigh run for Congress. Give the 16th congressional distric a representative who works for the people and not for nancy pelosi. Shapleigh for congress. Shapleigh could easily get 51% of the democrat primary vote.

Shapleigh instead of Reys...that's like having a choice between Leprosy or Small Pox!!!!

This is an open letter to Eliot Shapleigh: I do not know if you will run for a statewide position, the state of Texas is RED. it is hard for a democrat to win a statewide race. I hope you will look in the mirror and think about the people in the 29th state senate you represented that are also in the 16th congressional district that has NO REPRESENTATION in Washington, DC. Can you turn your back on the 29th state senate distict (16th conhressional district)? You have more of a chance to win a democrat primary for congress than you do winning a statewide race. I have walked precincts and the voters (who vote in every election) tell me they want someone to run in the primary against reyes. I have been hearing this since 2000. We have a low voter turnout, because people want candidates to vote for. Reyes does not represent the 16th congressional district. Reyes has his favorites and that is it. If I called his office for assistance I would not get the assistance. The House of Representatives are supposed to be the peoples house. That is total "bullshit" Reyes may have money for this race. A good challenge would be very good for this community. The turnout would be great. All you need is 51% of the vote to win a primary. How many people would actually vote in a democrat primary to vote for you Eliot Shapleigh and against reyes. People want a change in the 16th congressional district. Who has the guts to stand up and challenge reyes? Whoever has the guts will get some RESPECT from the voters. Democrats do not win statewide. Democrats win in El Paso, but not in the suburbs of Texas. Texas is not a purple state. Texas is still red. Think about running for congress, Eliot Shapleigh. You have more support than you think. Reyes does not represent us in Washingtron, DC. Reyes' staff has no respect for the people in the 16th congressional district. Good example: the outing of Ken Hudnall's medical records on Feb.6,2009 on the khro radio airwaves by Peter Brock. El Paso, Texas needs a change in the 16th congressional district. El Paso, Texas is "TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION". Think about this community that you love. Think about El Paso, Texas. Consider a run for congress. You can reach 51%. You can win. Ned Lamont beat Joe Liebermann in Connecticut in a demacrat primary and then Liebermann went independent. Just think about it. What race will help the people in El Paso, Texas. I vote in every election. I know you could win that primary for congress. You have my vote and thousands of others.
