The El Paso Times decided to report the story first reported by Sammy C. Section a month ago. Seems as if they (EP Times) were able to discern that it was in fact Scary Larry who had a run-in with ICE and owes them tens of thousands of dollars in fines.
Larry was quoted in the article and to hear his side of the story it's all just a big misunderstanding and nothing really wrong has been done. If you read the case file provided by Sammy C. Section on his blog you'll see that Larry's little problem wasn't so little in their eyes. And you have to imagine that they don't assess $36,000 fines over clerical errors knowing that amount would shut down most small businesses. I think Larry's side of the story is much different than ICE's story, but we're not going to hear their side because they aren't in the business of conducting prosecutions in the court of public opinion (I really tried to avoid that long sentence, but I had so much to say and I need it to be a compound thought... sorry).
Judging by the fact that Scary Larry allegedly went after Sammy C. Section at a debate earlier this week over his reporting of the investigation and fine, it's a little more than clerical errors.
Whatever... I hope people know he's on the city ethics panel/commission/board and the man with the most Conquistador awards - a feat in itself.
