Apparently Lyda Ness told a group of people attending what was essentially the "Save the Valley" (aka the get out and stay out greasy mexicans coalition) forum something very very telling. Ness told the group that we don't need businesses like Western Refining and ASARCO.
WOW.
Somebody just out-liberaled Susie Byrd!
I was told that Ness was business friendly. I was lied to. She apparently has the progressive leanings of a few people currently on council. Ness and the progressive obviously agree that any job that doesn't require an office is a job that isn't needed. They're wrong.
In reality, any job performed in an office is probably second in overall importance to those that take place outside of one. Remember, when the town's water well runs dry, they don't call the town accountant.
I was planning on laying off of Ness because my expose on "Copygate" really sent shock-waves through her little community. I felt bad for them that they were exposed to the truth most of us already know - liberals think they're smarter than the rest of us, but they're not. Getting caught trying to play the masses hurts.
What I found funny about tonight's forum was that Ness was in bed with the "Save the Valley... From the Mexicans" group even though their fearless leader is a Tea Partier and not a fan of gay rights. Most of their members were at the Tea Parties I was involved in. Most of their members are staunch republicans who think gays shouldn't marry. I guess her own personal ideals are second to the need to be elected.
I didnt see you there David. Why don't you post her comment completely? Well SOV will. She did not say that we dont need these businesses, she said we need to attract white collar businesses that keep our UTEP graduates here rather then leaving El Paso.
Why does it bother you so much that she doesn't fit into some tidy little niche? Is it so hard to understand that some folks think about each issue logically rather then towing the party line. I get that she is fiscally conservative and pro business and also believes in civil rights which she stated quite clearly.
*shaking head*
So simplistic

Mary,
I wasn't there?
She's a liberal lawyer. She fits perfectly into a nitch.
White collar jobs to keep UTEP grads here? We better start actually graduating some people from UTEP!
The facts - a tiny portion of UTEP grads leave town. Sorry, census numbers don't back your theory.
Besides, the highest paying white collar jobs in town are with Western Refining. Understand your topic before speaking.

your copygate article showed me more how much people hate Lilly and the pac that supports her than anything garcia did wrong. you attacked a whistle blower ? Did you see the call in Brownfield had with Darren Hunt and Crowder ? i thought the lawyer and Crowder had swallowed their tongue.

chucky,
leaking documents to a candidate for office doesn't make you a "whistle blower" It makes you a bad employee and a liability to tax payers. Had the person leaked them to the DA... different story.
pulled you head out of your ass before commenting.

This was a very good point David K:
"leaking documents to a candidate for office doesn't make you a 'whistle blower.' It makes you a bad employee and a liability to tax payers. Had the person leaked them to the DA... different story."
Amen, Amen, Amen and very, very well said!

i guess what Lilly did makes no difference, huh ? is this what you guys are saying ? kill the messenger not the one who is actually committing the crime ?(is it actually a crime or an ethics violation lilly committed ?) im sorry, but rip van anne needs to go.

.Blog reader,
We will never know if the allegations of Lilly's use of city resources for campaign activities are true. We won't know this because the person who found the alleged violation corrupted the investigative process by improperly handling, and distributing the evidence. The only wrongdoing I can find comes from the "leaker." We will never know the truth about Lilly.

I was at the forum last night and I do live in District 1 - but not the Upper Valley. Because this forum was sponsored by Save the Valley it was all geared towards their issues. Lyda Ness Garcia did in fact state "we do not need businesses like Western Refining and ASARCO in El Paso" This was in response to a question regarding "green environment, jobs, etc." At no time during that statement did she say anything about UTEP graduates. I even heard an audience member mumble "she stepped in it now" when she made the anti-Western Refining comment. I guess Mrs. Garcia doesn't appreciate what Western Refining contributes to this city and how it's CEO has personnaly worked very hard at great expense to update, upgrade and participate in downtown redevelopment. Mrs. Garcia also echoed the Susie Byrd bible of "Ray Caballero's Dreams for El Paso". So if you want another Susie on the council then vote for Mrs. Garcia.
She also did not support the ballot initiative on the "family values" - she believes that vote doesn't count and she won't abide by it. She did file the Civil Rights lawsuit. So if she wins will she withdraw the lawsuit? Mrs. Garcia said she would be available by cell phone and e-mail anytime (but not 24/7). So how does she devote 40+ hours to her district when she is a practicing attorney in highly volatile cases such as Family Law? Will she close her practice, reduce her practice, leave in the middle of a Council meeting to get a restraining order for someone? Can she afford the pay cut?

Ric Shecter, Hinojosa, Teresa Ware-Asbury, Tim Besco and Abe Peinado. Tim and Abe didn't show last night.
