Remember when I told you a while back that commercial property owners hate highways and love congested one lane roads? I was referring to how a highway and access roads did nothing to increase the value of the commercial land abutting Transmountain. Some of you who make being stupid a hobby disagreed with me.
So what do you think of THIS.
Major commercial real estate guy hates the idea of a new highway next to his property because it kills commercial properties. It's proof that the Transmountain expansion does nothing to make the landowners abutting the road richer. It's bullshit - it makes their land worth less and they're willing to take the hit to move El Paso forward.
This is apples and oranges and not even close to the same thing.

Chucky,
No, it's the same thing.

Hi Dave,
The reason River Oaks Property owner (Gerald Rubin) opposes the TxDot project at North Zaragosa and Joe Battle Blvd. is not the highway itself, but the huge new elevated overpasses that will cut River Oaks Development from the community, forcing people onto Loop 375. You can see the same kind of business killing TxDot project on Americas leading to the Zaragosa Bridge. The elevated highway that was built with bridges virtually cut in half the previous at grade Americas Drive into two streets and parts. Several business have closed others took a huge loss in business.
In contrast, the $85 million 3.6 mile trans mountain Freeway Project is fully supported by commercial developers there, in fact they "donated" land to TxDot for the Gateways to help their developments.

The Riveroaks guy is upset because the new highway will essentially cut down on his traffic.
The transmountain highway adds to the traffic, thus making those properties much more valuable.
A kid with average intelligence could figure that one out.
