So... this is it. I've a got a new job in a new place and can not do this anymore. Not that I'd care to do it after I'm gone. I've got no say in what you do and how you do it if I'm not living here full-time anymore. There's nothing worse than getting criticised by the guy who buzzes into town every once in a while - I hate that guy.
I had planned on putting together a big 10 point post on how El Paso could improve itself. I then started thinking about exactly how many people are actually unhappy with El Paso and the urge passed. A tiny part of the population cares enough to vote and of those voters, most are just looking for a handout - nothing I write will ever change that. Not enough people care, and those who do have their priorities out of whack. The fact is - you don't need my advice because you are all perfectly happy.
I still might get filled with words and then decide to share them with you, but I doubt it. I'm headed to the big leagues again and you can't sit around wondering about some place you have little investment in once you're at the top. My brain needs to be focused on anything but El Paso to be successful.
I will leave the blog up so people can access the archives and leave nasty comments.
For those of you who like me - thank you.
For those who didn't - I won't let the door hit me.
For those in office and seeking office - the pressure is now off! Do whatever the hell you want - there's nobody to hold you accountable now that I'm gone. This pesky little blogger who couldn't be bought, couldn't be coddled, is closing his eyes and sticking his fingers in his ears like the rest of El Paso. You are now free to rape El Paso without any interference from me. I will no longer be blowing the rape whistle every time I catch you in the act. Have fun, be gentle.
As the title implies - in the end it's you who caused this, not me.
Back to D.C.?

No, really Jaime, I mean David - you are leaving the blogging world? And El Paso, too? This isn't another of those two weeks publicity stunts, is it?
(Speaking of Jaime, has anyone else noticed how silent he has been about the weekend election...hmmm?)
Well, I am thankful for our time on radio and thanks for letting me fill in for you - even though Abel wasn't happy about it!
Pump out 2 or 3 more kids and your life will be complete! Take care and good luck.

"As the title implies - in the end it's you who caused this, not me."
Is that you Lebron James.
Dude if you are truly leaving you could have done it with a bit more class.

Bwahahahha, what a joke...
Posted by: Pfft | June 13, 2011 at 01:05 PM
David did not say he was leaving the blogging world. Just not blogging about El Paso. You will be missed. Thanks for all your hard work.
Posted by: Diana | June 13, 2011 at 01:23 PM
David whatever your endeavors, I hope that you and your family will do good.
Thank you for the opportunity
to write on your blog. I wish you well. I will be missing your blog. It has really been interesting.

David, your blog will be missed by those of us who appreciated your wit and biting sarcasm. You are a total pain in the ass to work with and i feel for your upcoming coworkers; in the end you are worth it, i think. Have fun in your next endeavor and come visit in Chicago anytime!
XO,
Lisa D.

Dave, sorry your leaving, I know that if you make this statement, unlike others...you do not do so in the hopes that your pretend friends and family beg you to come back because you are the only voice of "reason" and then when your candidate loses and your "hopes" to get a job with their win suddenly leaves you speechless and stup...d.
I am sure unlike other forums where people who do not reside in El Paso continue to manipulate every thread while they shove their opinions and defense of their friends, is not an unflattering trait that you will follow, or as a forum host allow to happen while you stay quiet lest they smear things about the host...
Thank you for allowing me to comment and of course for publishing, responding and posting my comments as points that were interesting and on some occassions on point.
Good luck, and unlike other bloggers, if you return there will be more than a handful of REAL people who will welcome your return.

El Paso's the worse for your departure. Whether or not I agreed with you (and I usually did), I have always respected your intelligence, wit, energy and concern. You will not be replaced, I'm sure. Good luck and come back when you and Jessica are ready to expand the family.

All the best. Thanks for writing this blog. Safe travels whereever that road leads you.

FUCK YOU David K!!! So you're gonna be a chump like Abeytia? You're gonna bitch about brain drain and then leave? Ever hear about business continuity? You have developed this fantastic political commentary that has most definitely influenced the outcome of elections and helped Republicans hang on by a thread in this city, yet you never had the foresight to develop other writers to work within your franchise and assure that the right wing viewpoint has a fair shake in EP? You never had the foresight to develop syndications with other Republican commentators under the banner of "Refuse the Juice" ? I hope you are not simply abandoning the blog. Maybe you are not a partisan, but I know you would back a moderate Republican before a Democrat. At the very least you could have coddled relationships with others to advance our side even though you may not agree with all of what they propagate. You can't be so obtuse as to turn your back on similar ideals despite that they may not be perfectLy aligned with your viewpoints. I digress, but I'm just pissed cuz it looks like you're just gonna let all of this fester. You had to have seen this coming down the pike; did you make preparations? You gave much life to our conservative viewpoint over a long time. It means absolutely NOTHING if you let it die now. Don't be an asshole that no one remembers. I can expect that from abeytia; I hope you don't fulfill the shitty blogger stereotype

Wow, your goodbye is saying up yours El Paso. So you must be very happy to be leaving this haven of Mexican Americans. So be it. You can be certain of one thing, by the time six months has passed you will be nothing more than "David K WHO?" Adios chump and good luck.
Posted by: Jorge | June 14, 2011 at 08:52 AM
didn't always agree with you but I read your blog and considered it one of the important mediums in the city. best of luck to you, the wife and the baby.

Really sorry to see you leave. I hardly ever post here, but I always read. I always appreciated your genuine concern for the city, mostly agrred with you, but always admired your tenacity and insight.

We've lost KHRO talk radio and now your blog. Must admit, really miss the combined, spirited action that took place daily on these local venues.
It was certainly never dull on either venue. Good luck David K and THANKS!

Bobby Boucher: Jealous? Or just a jerk?
Posted by: what a jerk | June 14, 2011 at 11:37 PM
Where are all your loser sycophant fans going to get their misinformation about local issues now? I mean you were like the Fox "new" of El Paso.
Later loser...this city is way better off without your lies.

Manuel Salcido, grow up, asshole.

HIP, HIP HOORAY! This is the best news I have had in a while. I'm a happy man and the IQ of El Chuco will go up when you leave.

David leaves and baits all of his haters and they come out to bash him and make themself look stupid just like he wanted.
"I don't like you and I think you are a stupid liar, but I read your blog everyday."
The bigger aqsshole won.

After reading these responses I have only one thing to say: Don't leave me all alone with these foolish nut-jobs! I don't mind riding in the back seat, and I'll immediately throw out my empty beer cans so I don't make a mess in your car.
happiness = self-centeredness = soulessness
Don't live a happy life, but instead continue living a fulfilled life.
Peace out, Dawg.

I am a liberal libertarian who disagreed with many of your viewpoints. However, I thought your blog was intelligently written and that your leaving is a loss to the El Paso political discourse.

Did momma's boy finally get a real job ?
Posted by: Enquiring Minds | June 16, 2011 at 02:47 PM
no, he won the lottery and left town.

Well, if he won the lottery at least he wont be a burden on mom and dad anymore. Only his wife.

Rumor has it he is replacing Vincent Perez as the new spokeperson for Congressman Reyes. Vince will be running against Margo and needs to come home to build the ground game.

Newspaper Tree or Tribune I bet ?
Posted by: tHE gAMBLER | June 17, 2011 at 09:50 AM
Nope his FB updates show he is in D.C.
Posted by: Tim Collins | June 17, 2011 at 11:18 AM
Spokesperson for Reyes ? I always thought he hated Reyes.
Posted by: tHE gAMBLER | June 17, 2011 at 06:58 PM
tHE gAMBLER
David and Reyes have a very oppositional past. Over time though as Congressman Reyes kept reading this blog the hate turned to admiration and respect. He realized that David apoke for a group in El Paso that would never vote for the Congressman, so he started listening.
He now realizes that with many loyal Dems possibly turning away from him in 2012 and a possible primary challenge from the soon to be former city council rep Prince O'Rourke, gathering these new supporters is crucial for his continued sweet gig as a no show employee in Congress. He now will imbrace David's abilities to lock up another term and squash this arrogant little interloper
Posted by: Tim Collins | June 18, 2011 at 02:04 PM
David K working for Reyes? For what so thar he can pass along inside info to the enemy? O'rourke Prince - NOT! O'Rourke is more like STONER CARTEL DUDE!
Posted by: Dimple | June 18, 2011 at 06:50 PM
David's mom loves Cheech O'roarke and his cash hiding mom. Bayto appointed Eileen to some Boards. Reyes just hired a spy from what i can see.
Posted by: Brownfield fan | June 20, 2011 at 10:20 AM
For that last time, Beto has only appointed me to the Civil Service Commission. I was previously on the Parks Board and the Tree Board. Those appointments were long before Beto ever ran for office. So Brownfield fan get over yourself. Beto is not going to be in office after the 27th. Move on, get a life and quit beating a dead horse. And for the rest of you, DavidK is NOT working for Reyes in DC.
Posted by: EileenK | June 20, 2011 at 11:43 AM
Aw shucks Mrs. K I was enjoying people actually believing David was working for Cong. Reyes. :)
Posted by: Tim Collins | June 20, 2011 at 12:46 PM
I know so was I (and so was DavidK). I think it was pretty bizarre that anyone would even entertain the idea. They don't agree with each other from a political view point and that has certainly not been a secret.
Posted by: EileenK | June 20, 2011 at 01:35 PM
Good joke Tim. Almost as good as you running for office as a write-in candidate.
Posted by: Brownfield fan | June 20, 2011 at 07:53 PM
Ouch!
Posted by: Texaswoman | June 22, 2011 at 12:28 AM
Congrats, this place will never change. Thanks for trying to start a revolution. I voted for you!
Posted by: chico | June 22, 2011 at 05:09 PM
Brownfield fan, you are an all term jerk.
Tim, ignore. He is just mad because he is so ignorant, he fell for what you posted.
Eileen, thank you for your service. The late Walt Phillips held you in high regard and that is enough for me.
I like Beto O'Rourke and wish him well.
Posted by: Diana | June 23, 2011 at 09:13 PM
Walt Phillips was a true gentleman and cared very much for El Paso. I enjoyed knowing him and serving with him on the Park Board. May he rest in peace.
