I noticed that the El Paso Times has dropped their "topix" comment section in favor of a facebook driven on that appears directly at the bottom of each article. This has greatly reduced the amount of comments made by people who wish to slander others. The reduction in comments also proves that many times the comments section was driven by one or two people posting under multiple names. The new facebook driven system puts an end to that and basically ends commenting all together seeing as how most people are too afraid to say what they think using their own name.
I noticed my comment section saw a severe reduction in use after I exposed a couple IPs of bigots and liars. I don't mind the loss in traffic there - you don't get to do that on my blog and now you don't get to do it on the El Paso Times' forum site.

Pastor Brown is about to learn a lot about the ups and downs of putting on a recall. It's not easy. They often fail.
If you want Pastor Brown's effort to fail (I could care less either way, but I'll give you a little hint on how counter political terrorism works here), make sure you sign his petition multiple times using incorrect information. Don't write your name as "Mickey Mouse," they'll catch that. Write a common name and make up the rest. When the city samples the petitions they'll notice all the incorrect info and kick them out.
If you want Pastor Brown to prevail (again, I don't care either way) you need to go get a copy of the county voter roll and literally carry it with you when you are having people sign the petition so that you can check their info against what's on the rolls. It is important that the person signing the petition has the exact matching information on the petition that appears on the voter roll.
The bottom line here is that the public will move on in a week when something new comes up and the domestic partner benefits issue will disappear like a 25-year old El Pasoan looking for a good job.

I'm loving this story about the Horizon girl who fooled a bunch of folks into giving her charity loads of dough. Not even the school nurse could look at the perfectly healthy teenager and call bullshit on her story. She scammed an entire community and she can't even order a beer!
A lot of people have to feel stupid out there in Horizon right now.
Topix is a horrible juvenile playground for attackers. It is mostly unmoderated. Rarely are there any real comments. This is a good move.

Topix was a cesspool. Filled with the likes of some of your former (?) commenters; bigots and brainwashed authoritarians.
Of course, many people have pseudonymous facebook accounts as well, and what EPT has really done (assuming people really care about commenting there - IMHO they don't) is drive more 'business' to facebook. I wonder how much that cost, and who foots the bill.
I honestly don't think you do a bad job when you stick to local politics. It tends to keep you away from the tired apologies for the Military Industrial Complex and right wing smear tactics. And occasionally you make a good point.
I don't stop in here much anymore, but it has nothing to do with my IP or whether I've ever been accused of being a bigot or liar (I'm neither).
I'm wondering if you've ever shamed a 'bigot' or 'liar' who happens to side with you politically.
