I have to say something now because the mainstream media is completely ignoring the reason why Herman Cain won the Florida straw poll.
Cain was a very popular syndicated talk show host out of Atlanta. His show was broadcast all over Florida for years. He is in the daily conservative line up of Hannity, Beck, Limbaugh, Ingraham and Boortz. He has a huge following in that region.
A straw poll for republican candidates is going to attract talk radio junkies. They're likely going to pick the guy who has been preaching his message to them five days a week for years. It's as if there was a straw poll in El Paso and Greg Freyermuth was on the ticket - he'd likely beat all the national big boys because the likely voters would be his listeners.
It's not that I don't like Herman Cain - he's great and he loves the "Fair Tax" as do I. I just think it's disingenous to claim Cain has rocketed in the polls when you have a very specific group of people who have been his audience for years voting. It is not all that shocking once you look at the facts.
Good point, but to equate that with Freyermuth in El Paso puts a taint on Cain. Even discounting the Hispanic regional dominance Freyermuth couldn't win an election. Freyermuth was not popular at all as evidenced by his lack of sponsors and listeners. Just like the rest of that goofy local radio experiment.

Freymouth did have sponsors unlike the others. Have you forgotten the Home Builders hour and the financial guy. They weren't on the air for free

gossip girl/boy et el,
I don't think you guys really caught what I wrote. "If" the electorate - the voters - in an election came only from of a pool of people who listened to Greg's Show - he'd probably win. These straw poll voters are 90 + percent likely to listen to at least on hour of conservative talk radio.
I wasn't talking about Greg, or I, winning an election outside of a voting pool made up of his listeners.
you guys seem to kind of invent stuff that wasn't in my original blog post.
A Cain can't win Florida given that he polls show he's somewhere around fourth or fifth when you poll "likely voters" instead of "former Cain listeners."
