City staff, City Councilors and City Council meeting attendees have all reported to me the same thing about Representative Emma Acosta - her "pretending" to be mayor during the meetings is getting downright annoying and in the way of the business of the people.
What is described to me, and backed up by video of the meetings, is Acosta engaging every single person at the beginning of every meeting - begging them to introduce themselves and talk about themselves. She's stepping way out of her role and really slowing down meetings so that she can actually promote herself. She's pretty much playing the self promotion game at every meeting through her constant interruption of the early portions of the meeting to prolong what is already a gigantic waste of taxpayer's time and money. She thinks if she acts "mayoral," she can convince people she would make a good one. However, she's stepping on the mayor's toes - it's his role to engage people at the podium during those portions of the meeting.
We all know that Acosta can not be mayor. She is seen as a joke in the parts of the town where the votes come from - the westside and northeast. Her district barely voted her in over complete losers in the past - it's doubtful she'd win her own district in a mayoral contest today. Seriously, she almost lost to Alex Lozano!!!
Acosta forgets that we have all the info on Hector Villa - I have all of the investigation on paper and in my pocket. She does not want the world to know how she was in charge when all of the crap went down - right under her nose. She also doesn't want the world to know about the five other shocking scandals she was involved in while working for the city.
Would Acosta want to talk about her sweetheart deal she got with the city to pay her $100,000 for the rest of her life? If she doesn't give details as to why she got a promotion and quick retirement, someone else will and it is going to be bad for her and everyone else involved.
Would she want to talk about the checks she signed and went out of her department to people who eventually went to jail? Overtime scandals?
What about Acosta's friends? How many of her close friends have been indicted? How many times did she put Scary Larry Medina in control of public boards when he was slated for indictment in the public corruption mess?
Here's my advice for Acosta - don't waste your energytrying to run for mayor. Me, and about 100 other people are ready to spend every single minute of every single day educating every single voter in the City of El Paso about your terrible past. You won't get one vote when we are done. Stick to your district, serve out your time and think about giving back that retirement you didn't earn.
This woman has no idea when to "leave the stage". Check out her appointment to the Civil Service commission. She's married to a Sun Metro employee. Talk about a conflict of interest. And Emma doesn't even care that there is even a perception of a conflict. I wonder if she did it to endear herself to the 6,000 city employees hoping they will vote for her.

My impression from afar is that Emma Acosta entered politics to be in a position to "cash in", but she just doesn't know how to do it yet without attracting too much attention and get caught with her hand in the cookie jar.

She keeps thinking it's 10 years ago when elected city officials could "cash in" and then came City Manager form of government and the public corruption cases. She missed her opportunity. If she wants to cash in I suggest she run for an office other than city council. And there is her ego - which is oversized to say the least.

Emma needs to remember that:
she made a boatload of money in her lawsuit for her inappropriate role in her job;
there is an entire neighborhood that was flooded and resorted to suing because she couldn't answer questions when they were PO'd...(really looked ignorant);
her fascination based on re-appointments of a certain ex-city council, ex-county commissioner, alleged corruptor...and multi winning conquistador winner (for doing nothing);
and last but not least...the woman is just not to bright...has no common sense and she really makes Cook worth keeping despite his stupidities as well.

i knew hector villa in college. we used to call him "pretty boy". im sure if he had something on emma he would have probably used it to reduce his sentence. he knew he might get popped a few times bending over for the soap out at "la tuna". i cant see him not saying anything just because he may have been popping emma. he plead to protect his sister. from what i remember he would pop a snake crossing the road if he had a chance. however, i could be wrong and remembering someone else. alzheimer moments come and go, but im pretty sure thats the hector i remember.

You ought to see her run the board meetings at Bienvivir Senior Health Services, yes that same board that has as a member,the epitome of transparency and honesty: Larry Medina.

it was my understanding the feds not only were going after Villa's sister but his wife - who is a respected member of the UTEP administration. so maybe he grew a set and actually did the right thing-take your punishment like a man. no one will ever be able to convince me that emma didn't know something was going on. go back to the may 2003 KDBC tv interview. so telling - her face and her answer.
