I got a report on this Larry Romero guy running for the District 2 spot against 50 other hopefuls. He's the first one to come out strong against the baseball deal, city manager form of government and any progress for the district.
He calls himself a "businessman," but then blasts everything that's good for business. District 2 is poised to get park and recreation upgrades they've needed for decades from the recently passed quality of life bond issue and he wants to put a stop to all of it. He's against everything voters have voted for in the past year and seeks to bring everything to a grinding halt. He seeks to go against the vote of the good people of District 2 - which is a poor way start to a campaign.
Even more shocking is his need to open City Hall up for corruption with his distaste for city manager form a government. He'd like things to be run by a single elected guy whose decisions are based on campaign contributions and personal favors. It's as if Mr. Romero wants to show the County of El Paso who can really be the most corrupt.
I think we've found Norma's candidate. I hope all of you in District 2 realize that if you let Norma win here, she'll have a majority on council and El Paso will slide back into the sewer.
Just a reminder - a guy who is actually good for District 2 is having a meet and greet tomorrow.
I was forwarded an invitation to Jim Tolbert's District 2 kick-off. Beer!
It’s time to kick-off the campaign for City Council District 2 officially.
