The city council backed away from putting the ballpark petition on the ballot because... well... because they knew it would end up with an injunction stopping everything. Their excuse now that the item isn't "actionable" is a good one, but put to use after they realized how dumb they were the first time.
Ortega had it right the whole time - to not bring validity to something that is patently invalid. You invite nothing but trouble at that point.
By the way - this is yet another loss for Norma Chavez. There's an old joke about a battered kid in court saying he wants to live with the Cowboys "because they don't beat anyone." The newest version of the joke in El Paso has the kid requesting Norma as a guardian.
Thank God they came to their senses. Poor Sal Gomez almost burst a blood vessel. His face was the color of his shiny hot pink jacket.
