Sorry if this posts at a whacky time – I’m testing some new delayed posting thing and it’s midnight and I think I have this screwed up.
A few days ago I put in a request with the city to see some emails between the city manager and some council members. I picked dates surrounding the move from the old city hall to the new city hall because I wanted to see how certain people dealt with chaos. I will be posting the more interesting emails over the next few weeks.
The one thing I didn’t do was ask for emails that involved constituents interfacing with their representatives. Unlike Four Names Allala, I respect the representative/constituent dynamic and don’t want to have a chilling effect on the public’s communication with their elected officials. Persecuting people for expressing an opinion to a city employee or city council person that differs from mine is un-American. I strive to never be un-American. So, when I use an email that contains a citizen’s information I’ll explain why I’m doing that and try to cover them as much as I can. It’s not their fault that city council members are not informed.
I can tell you from looking through the emails that the tone, frequency and quality of communication at City Hall has suffered greatly since Four Names Allala and her merry band of idiots made communicating with your elected officials a federal crime. Some city council members simply have stopped using their city email address for anything. In the first seven months of this year Representative Holguin sent a total of eight (8, ocho, 4+4) emails to Joyce Wilson. Even when emails are sent, they are devoid of details and one gets a sense that “off-line” conversations are covering the more important parts of the story. Bottom line – Allala has made City Hall much more secretive than it was before.
I can tell you that I have seen nothing that is the least bit illegal or unethical. However, stupid and bitchy win the day. Reading through the emails you get the sense that Wilson is running a daycare. It’s really sad. I don’t know if she’s paid too much, or not enough.
I look forward to entertaining you and I hope you find Max Powers’ post yesterday to be a good teaser. I gave him that one because I knew he’d say something funnier than I about it.
