So I posted a blind items piece last week... or the week before. I chose not to reveal the people involved for various reasons. That's how blind items work.
Some people don't get that. One political consultant... wait... let's talk about that for a second. The proliferation of so-called "political consultants" at the local level in El Paso has gotten out of hand.
First, if you want to run for local office and you can't figure out how to do that on your own - holding the actual job of city councilor is way beyond your abilities.
Second, these people aren't "political consultants." They are dudes who have access to the Texas Democratic voter database, a map and cursory knowledge of Microsoft Excel. They all do the same thing - provide lists for direct mail and walking. And guess what - they all provide the exact same God damned list to their candidates. None of their work or is Carl Rove or James Carville level shit. Nobody is defining a platform around key issues. There are no issues. There are no "undecideds." There is literally nothing for a real political consultant to do in a city council race.
This political consultant writes me to tell me he's working with a certain candidate and he's not a drunk driver or a child molester. I thought that was interesting. It got more interesting when he asked that I set the record straight. I had to remind him that there was no record to set straight. Nobody knows the answer to my blind item. They can guess, but that's all they can do.
I also told the guy that he probably shouldn't bring any attention to himself or the issue. He disagreed. Well, now this guy's former affiliation with the drunk alleged child molester is the only thing people are focusing on. I'm sure his candidate is glad she hired a political consultant now!
Even if someone did hire an alleged child molester drunk driver as their political consultant, what would be the problem? He's your political consultant - it's not like he's chauffeuring your kids to and from school.
Maybe I see the world differently.
So, in closing... A guy I never mentioned isn't the guy I never mentioned, but he is working for a candidate I never mentioned. Please make sure correct your thoughts on what I didn't say.
