I hear there's a lot we don't know about the investigations and actions of the public integrity unit that is supposed to watch the public's back. It seems that some staff at the city and some members of council know what they are looking into and why, but the public has no way of knowing. That's not a good thing.
After the big corruption scandal from years back there were actions taken to keep this from happening again. A special unit was created to investigate such crimes. The only problem is that they never really find any wrongdoing when it comes to the people who control their budget... funny how that works.
It would be interesting to know what they are working on. I hear they are looking into the email breach that took place recently. I do know someone was fired for sure. I do know that there are questions in to why this person did what they did and who might have stopped them... or inspired them. I think the city does itself a huge disservice with the public's trust if they don't announce they are looking into this.
And what about bad behavior exhibited by the electeds themselves? Sometimes it's not who you know, it's who you are. I hear there was a rather embarrassing "do you know who I am" situation not too long ago that everyone has politely swept under the rug. Even further back we had a city councillor who was facing charges, but we never got the story of what happened to them. Why not?
Rep. Larry Romero isn't the only one deserving a second look these days. However, you have no place to start when it comes to finding whose been naughty outside the eye of council meetings and ad hoc committees. Unlucky you.
