David Saucedo II spoke in favor of the city manager on the day Rep. Claudia Ordaz posted an item to discuss his well deserved and market correct raise. I said on that day that he had tremendous potential as a politician in El Paso (notice I'm not writing "leader" - we don't need leaders, we need representatives). And because my endorsement is platinum covered in gold covered in Avila's queso - he decided to run. JUST KIDDING. He likely has no idea who I am. And you are now thinking that maybe Avila's queso should be a standard by which the finest things on Earth are measured.
I already posted that Dee Margo made a smart move by putting his name out there. Margo is a known quantity among voters. You either like him, or you don't... or you really hate whoever he's running against and decide to vote for him out of spite. Margo's sole focus will be to turn out the voters who like him. He can do it. He's experienced.
Saucedo, on the other hand, is a much different kind of candidate. Saucedo is the type of guy who actually wins over voters who were intending on voting for someone else. He can do this because he's new to the politics game. He's a product no one has had a chance to try yet. Saucedo's focus will be on attracting voters from the entire spectrum that makes up the political ideologies of the fifteen to twenty of you who actually vote. And judging by the buzz after his El Paso Inc. article HERE, he's doing well already.
He's got bona fides to run on. Business guy. Notre Dame guy. Big picture guy. Beard guy. Cathedral guy. Latino guy.
I'm not aware of any faction that has him under their thumb as of yet. I'll be watching closely to see how that goes. Not sure if he's hired a campaign team yet, but you can bet my blogging buddies will let you know when that happens with either fits of rage or orgies of praise. Making walk lists is a big business in El Paso politics and you bet your ass the many "political consultants" in town will shoot their own mother for a contract that amount to $3 an hour. I wait patiently for the whining and crying to begin.
