Read KVIA's story on Rep. Lily Limon's effort to tax you more HERE.
You're not just raising the wages of the lowest paid guy. You're raising every single contract employee $3.00 an hour (or more). That $3,000,000 figure city staff put up doesn't cover the other $5,000,000 in raises for the adjustment up the line. You're talking a $10,000,000 budget hit once all is said and done (renegotiated contracts etc.).
Remember, depending on how the labor is provided, the contractor takes 15 percent profit on each worker. You're not just raising wages, here, you're shooting contract prices through the roof.
But hey, it's El Paso. You're willing to try anything stupid at least once, right?
The city council members thinking of running for mayor will lose by a landslide if they don't vote to have this taken from future agendas and I'll be the guy letting the public know just who is guilty of letting such issues embarrass the city.
