First, why is the county judge picking on the hysterical commission? Is it really worth bashing people whose only crime is loving El Paso too much? Why are they smashing an ant with a hammer and bragging about it? These people are trying to good things for El Paso... even if not everyone agrees. Why diminish that spirit?
And if they're so sensitive about a no-power commission canvassing votes, why hasn't anything been done when it has happened in exec session repeatedly at council? What about when Rep. Claudia Ordaz had Jaime Abeytia canvass votes on the city manager raise?
Seems to me the vigilance here is selective and the voters will notice. Hillary Clinton breaks the law blatantly and nothing happens. Joe Six Pack owes the IRS $800 and he's got ten agents beating down his door. We deplorables notice these things.
What if Congressman O'Rourke's senate bid is a head fake designed to keep Mayor Leeser from running for mayor again? A few of us have been talking and thought that maybe, just maybe, the Shapleigh Campers are up to something.
The Shapleigh Campers learned something last mayoral election. Even if you get in early and get all the money, a guy jumping in last second with name ID can win. The Shapleigh Campers as of yet do not have a candidate. The mayor is unbeatable if he runs again. So I guess they want to keep him out with hopes of a congressional bid so they can slide someone in on the last day of filing.
Wouldn't that be awesome????? I mean, not for El Paso, but what a political strategy!
Think about it - the Shapleigh Campers are extinct at city hall. However, they are plentiful at the county. The only problem - county has no money. If they could own the judge and the mayor, they could start sending city funds to the county to pay for all the toys. It's not brilliant, but it's smart.
Let's see what happens.
